The Friendship Cabin received the highest accolade for its continuing work in the community when  Roger Wilks (Trustee and Chair) and Pearl Weepers (Volunteer Coordinator) accepted an invitation from the Lord Chamberlain acting on behalf of Her Majesty to attend the Royal Garden Party at Holyroodhouse. In ultra warm conditions with nearly eight thousand others it was an absolute pleasure to enjoy the company of The Prince of Wales, Anne The Princess Royal, Sophie Countess of Wessex and Mr Timothy Lawrence as they mingled with superbly attired guests. The Royal Standard flew above the palace which told everyone the Queen was in residence. Before the  "Royals" moved amongst the invited guests a delicious buffet was available with a never ending stream of savouries and luxurious sweets followed by ice cream. Throughout the afternoon three military bands provided entertainment  and discipline was ensured by the Royal Company of Archers who are the Queens official bodyguard at Holyrood. Ice Bucket Challenge

The Friendship Cabin is a local Scottish charity supporting individuals in Glenrothes, Fife. The aim is to provide physical and mental stimulation, with the goal to promote independence, health and wellbeing of members that attend the sessions. The sessions are designed to improve the quality of life of individuals, while fostering community spirit and inclusion, by making them feel like a valued part of the group. Remember back in 2014, when the “Ice Bucket Challenge” went viral? Well, this time, one of our members, Gordon Smith, has ecstatically decided to take part in this challenge, however, this time to raise funds for The Friendship Cabin! The event will take place on 13th May (2022) at The Woodside Community Hall at 4:30 pm.  A recording will also be posted on the website and all our social media avenues.

Curry Night

Fun Friday with a difference when The Friendship Cabin met at Woodside Community Hall. With Covid regulations now being eased it was a great opportunity to organise their first fun raising event of the year and in fact it was the first for some time. By popular request, a curry meal was organised by Hermann Rodrigues with the main course supplied by Spice Lounge Kitchen  from Edinburgh and with poppadoms and mango chutney the meal also included chicken and veg pakora and bombay mix. To finish and to clean the palate there was flavoured ice cream. During the meal, which was served by Volunteers, other members went around selling raffle tickets which gave everyone a chance to win generously donated prizes which were identically wrapped, so the lucky winners chose a bag but having no idea of its contents. Tickets were also available for a tombola. The evening concluded with thanks to everyone involved in the curry night, especially those selling tickets, serving and finally washing up, but a special  vote of thanks was given to Pearl Weepers for taking on the overall organisation and also to a benefactor for a very generous donation. Thanks to Steve Nomad-Ayemad who was kind to take a few pictures for us of the event. To complete a very successful evening, music was supplied by Billy Tully.
